I can’t wait to hear what the guys (and Matt) have to say about the Taibbi & Shellenberger allegedly getting “bodied” by Dems in Congress today. What an embarrassing time to be someone who holds even the faintest of respect for politicians.
After watching the first clip I saw, which was the back and forth between Taibbi and Garcia, which I found via some conservative news outlet, I thought, "well, this is some nut-picking right here, it can't be that bad." So I went and sought out some longer clips, and it just didn't get any better.
It somehow keeps getting worse the longer you watch, no matter what order you watch the clips in. Michael Scott in front of a class he promised to pay college tuition for levels of cringe.
Oh, that got a hearty chuckle out of me. It seems like a really funny sitcom could be written about the current state of Congress if anyone had any spine left.
God, I almost completely forgot about 'Veep'. Holy shit-christ that show was funny. Bring together some of 'The Office' writers with some of the writers from that show and you'd have a tour de force.
I was just there and really liked the fried green tomato grilled cheese at Well Hung. I was only there for a few hours though so I’m sure others will have better tips.
If you can make it to Bulls Island, do. Botany Bay is another excellent boneyard beach area. Anything that gets you on a boat is probably a good decision. Or if weather is not good, consider checking out the indoor museum with a Civil War era submarine (you read that correctly).
Miller's All Day is worth waiting for. Off Track is top notch ice cream. Toni's is a better Detroit-style pizza than they have in Detroit.
My beloved home town! The food is great. If you want a quirky, out of the way place for just some fried seafood and beer, Bowen's Island is fun. There are many BBQ places, but Bessinger's has the biggest onion rings & wonderful Lowcountry mustard sauce (I still go though they don't serve booze). Shrimp & grits just about anywhere is a revelation! Enjoy!
I haven't travelled home as much in the last 4 years, so I haven't seen firsthand if/how 2020/lockdown/etc. has changed the city. Post Hugo (late 80s) money really gentrified King Street--which is more "Southern Charm" (the disgraced protagonist T Rav went to my high school) than the gritty dive bars like AC's or crazy stores like Harpagon Books that made my youth vibrant--like drinking beer & eating pizza in a cigarette-stained booth with Abbie Hoffman after a lecture. One place we had a bit of reunion of the old scene was at a little bar West Ashley called the Tin Roof. If you get out with adults, there might be something fun happening there! (I'm sure this sounds like old folk nostalgia, but there it is).
Oh shit, my alcohol actually got to y'all! Fucking FedEx was intent on delivering that bottle on a day no one from TFC was at the designated alcohols address, so glad it made it your way!
42:00 Completely agree with you Michael: You trespass in a federal building, Crime. You assault a police officer, Crime. You destroy property inside the house, Crime. One thing I found really fascinating about January 6th though was in the aftermath, there were several friends of mine who said things like, "You just watch, they won't be punished because they are white. If they would have been black, the police would have mowed them down like grass." I found that fascinating. I guessed and was consequently found correct that they would all face pretty harsh penalties. There is a group of people who genuinely believe that the hand of justice comes down on only one or two groups and exponentially more than others and it doesn't really play out in the data. As if the world really operated like Eddie Murphy's fucking incredible "White like me":
There is certainly evidence that Black people are mistreated at the hands of cops more than their non-black equivalents and police reform is something we should all care about but that aspect of the response to January 6th was very bizarre to me.
8:50 "The once booming Podcast Industry currently on the back foot"
Joe Rogan Podcast Views (Last 3 episodes) Per Clips on Youtube: 1.8 million, 2.1 million, 628 thousand (Probably much more on Spotify)
Vs from Forbes Article last month:
"February marked CNN’s lowest-rated month in a decade, with the network’s prime time lineup dropping 42% among viewers 25-54—the key demographic group valued by advertisers—compared to the same month one year ago. CNN drew an average prime time audience of 122,000 viewers in the key demo, compared to Fox News Channel’s 299,000 viewers (down 33%). MSNBC was third overall with 119,000 viewers (down 15%).
So what is the Mainstream Media Industry currently "on"?.... Their ass?....in the bottom of a well or something?
A counter point would be that most CNN users don't turn in just for an hour, but keep the channel on for longer than a podcast episode (even if its just on in the background). So direct comparisons are more difficult, even if CNN sucks and Joe Rogan is pulling more views.
Mansplaining was first... um, explained to me by a woman as being when a man explains something to a woman in simplistic terms because he believes she's intellectually incapable of grasping complex ideas. In practice, I've mostly seen the term used to stifle debate, by calling out supposed "mansplaining", ie: toxic masculinity, as a way to avoid responding to a points raised during debate. See also: systemic racism
Every time I hear people talking about this Fox News lawsuit, I start thinking of the Sisters of Mercy song and begin singing "DO-MINI-ON!" loudly to myself in my head.
I don't know why this is the first topic I decided to comment on, but oh well.
Sacheen Littlefeather, so her real name was Maria Cruz, had a father of Mexican descent and considering the mexican population's genetic makeup, she deffinitely had more Native ancestry than any random Debbie Pretendian.
Of course she had fuckall to do with the Apache nation in spite of her claims, so there's that.
So. Much. Moynsplaining.
Would pay extra for the spin off podcast “Fifth Column Directors Commentary”
I’m gonna pick up all those podcast bros on the downswing
“It’s not because you’re a woman, it’s because I’m a fucking asshole” 😂
I love it when you guys pre-game heavily. Reminds me of the early Fifth Column days when getting totally sloshed was par for the course.
I can’t wait to hear what the guys (and Matt) have to say about the Taibbi & Shellenberger allegedly getting “bodied” by Dems in Congress today. What an embarrassing time to be someone who holds even the faintest of respect for politicians.
Will certainly come up on Second Sunday!

I love the 2:50 pm drop time!
I'm headed to Charleston, SC next week on a family vacation - any tips?
Have to go to Lewis Barbecue

There's a lot of good stuff in Charleston.

Have all the food. It’s delicious.

My family too! Awesome!

That shit got swallowed.
There's a reason it's my brother- and sister-in-law's favorite now!
Tried to get Kmele to have another bottle while he's in town, but NFC got him in and out of ATX on his way to Chile

Spotify paid him $100 million for no good reason.

As far as I know, 'manspreading' is when someone with testicles sits down.
It’s shirt-cock O’clock!
Had to Google "Dick Gregory Manganese." Glad I did, because now I know what manganese will make me do to my momma.
https://youtu.be/2bnM2X9yGP4
Even the subtitles say "manganese" lol

That's an interesting point! She probably did have some Native American ancestry.
