I’m going to become a Mother’s Day truther. Who’s with me?

Expand full comment

I don't think there was even a Mother's Day zoom call. I think it was all a deepfake arranged by the Venezuelans. We should organize a conference to get to the bottom of the conspiracy.

Expand full comment

I was on the call from the start.... or that's what they'd have me believe. I've been working with my therapist and she helped me recover some memories related to this. These memories featured... who else... (the Jews).

Expand full comment

You’re lucky. The only repressed memory my therapist helped me unlock was 30 minutes of Moynihan raving about Jesse Singal’s legs. I feel like Charlie Brown getting a rock on Halloween.

I don't expect this will need clarifying here, but this is a joke lambasting recovered memory therapists and the conspiracy theorists who always seem to end up pointing their fingers at "The Jews".

Expand full comment

I was there and I’m going to guess the number of questions from the audience (via voice) would make it weird to post. Or, we could just blame the Jews. Like when they did 9/11.

Very good.

From a branding standpoint, you might want to refer to it as #May14.

So when is someone going to come clean about forgetting to hit record on that Mother’s Day zoom? Looking at you Matt...😜

It wasn't me.

I am an East Bay (CA) native and die-hard baseball fan. I grew up 15 minutes from the Coliseum. The A's were always my team. I rode with them through the Matt Stairs and Olmedo Saenz years (in addition to all of the great years). When I lived in Chicago in 2008, I listened to Bill King turn the radio play-by-play over to Ray Fosse in the 7th inning (or so) of a drubbing by the Rays in Tampa and suffered through that experience through the final out (RIP Foss!). I was starting to enjoy watching Ruiz, Noda, and Rooker develop as quality big-leaguers this season. My A's fan bona fides are beyond reproach. But, when I read that Glen had been fired, I simply knew deep down that I could feel no more joy supporting this team because of the organization's lack of grace and forgiveness.

I watched the video of that Kuiper thing right after it occurred. He clearly stumbled over his words, into the N-Word. Also, I find it unlikely that an incorrigible racist would be thanking the Negro Leagues Museum. If Kuiper were that person, he would have been fired years ago for saying something else. You’re right about the response to this incident being shameful.

Exactly

How do you feel about the pending move? I always hoped they could get something done somewhere in the Bay, but it always seemed far-fetched. I hope I don't offend, but the Coliseum is an embarrassment.

No offense at all man. We always think of it as "Our Dump" but obviously it's a dump. The A's have really been trying to get a stadium built for 20 years though and I blame the City of Oakland more than the team for that one. Just incompetent city goverance.

I had to look up who their AAA team is. Turns out, it's located in Vegas, and they just opened a new ballpark in 2019. I mean, guys probably drag a little bit at the AAA level just so they don't get called up!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!! Ethan Strauss! One of my favorite guests! Really lovely interview guest and engaging writer. Can’t tell you the number of times I set out to read a paragraph and became totally engrossed.

I like Ethan Strauss, I just don't like basketball.

I really love Ethan's breakdown of "okay, well, I could envision if there was some tangible tradeoff for policing language (i.e. if Oakland looked like Singapore) I could come around to seeing their POV, but it's the exact opposite." Brilliant take.

For all the talk about how medicine has become captured by highly monied interests, the FDA isn't doing its job on ensuring that products work and are safe before approving them, public health hasn't listened to the evidence in its messaging, much of this totally justified, I do think it's important to remember that outside of medicine, there was never a conceit of empirically testing interventions to begin with.

Tina Turner did a massive marketing campaign for the Australian NRL (National Rugby League). It was called Simply the Best. It was absolutely massive and incredibly successful. Plus she got to hang out with a lot of very muscled young footballers.

This then led to the Mad Max work.

So she has an outsized fan base in Australia.

Desantis’ launch was one of the lamest I’ve seen in years. He’s going to have to find some momentum and perhaps a personality if he’s going to take down the big orange guy! I just don’t see that happening

I thought it was more interesting than any other presidential announcement I've seen. Do people really think it was lame or are they just going along with the pageantry coverage?

I really hope the guys will cover the craziness that is happening in the Texas Legislature in the next episode. To give a preview, the speaker of the house was badly slurring his words, the Texas AG ( Ken Paxton) was just impeached by the house, probably for his multiple indictments (federal and state). To make matters worse, Paxton allegedly slept with a senate staffer in another senators office, and Paxton's wife will have to vote in his trial in the senate as she's a senator.
