I know you boys have to do the mailbag podcasts to satisfy the membership base interaction….but man, when you guys just flip on the mics and break down the SHITSTORM that is the American news cycle it is amazing. No guests, no “John from Omaha says…” - just helping us make sense of this insanity. You guys are doing a great Black Job.
Dear Lord I would pay any amount of money for this. Although it would have to say other Moynihanisms as well. Which would be mostly just explicative-filled insults I guess.
Exactly why I started listening in 2020! I was just flummoxed with the nonsense around me and these guys confirmed there was still some sanity out there. I keep listening to make sure I keep away from the crazy!
Back when I was in university, the “Social Justice Centre” on campus formally endorsed Maduro. It was honestly beautiful and inspiring to see the way that the Latino students, especially the Venezuelan students, dogpiled them for that statement.
Let’s hope that the Venezuelan people succeed in their resistance and that we can see democracy prevail.
Hear, hear! It's an astonishingly stupid position to hold on campus when every university has an economics department with people in it who can explain why command economies are inherently destined to fail, and that the Labor Theory of Value on which all of Marx's economic ideas were based uses fallacious logic and was debunked somewhere between a few years and few decades after his works were published. It's as clown-ass ridiculous as advocating for feudalism.
Really hope this is a turning point for the Venezuelan people. They deserve an end to such suffering.
Common mistake , during his time with S.H.I.E.L.D. he was dispatched there to aid in a defense against a team up of MODOK and Klaw hell bent on brining back a new Rhodesia on behalf of a group of wealthy Boers and some weird recluse from Latveria. He was lost in that jungle saving Dum Dum from a laser blast fired by the Viper as she had managed to slip behind them.
Can you imagine if Donald Trump had an IQ above 70. He would be an unstoppable political force. Unfortunately his severe mental retardation stands in his way.
I don't think it is so much lack of intelligence, he has a certain street smarts to him, but he is a true narcissist. He simply does not have thoughts in his head that don't directly revolve around himself so there is on room for knowledge of anything.
I remember years ago reading a puff piece about Trump where he was designing his new house or office or something and there was a library. He mentions they were going to have books, "really good books, like all 1st editions". It always occurred to me that like everything books are just props to Trump as a signifier of his wealth and status. The content of them are irrelevant.
No. I do think it’s his lack of intelligence. I know the type. Blowhards. Keyword people. He’s my dad. He knows just enough to fool stupid people into thinking he has the keen ness to him. He doesn’t.
He would be in the negative in jeopardy.
I literally am not being hyperbolic I think he’s a dunce. Like an absolute dunce. Billy Madison style. If his money and support system of people were stripped from him he’d be living in a rundown shack that’s filthy trying to sell rotten apricots on the side of the road.
He is the literal embodiment of HL Menckens famous quote :
“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
I remember there was an episode (must’ve been 2015-16), where Moynihan in his most Moynihan voice said, “this is the dumbest person to have ever run for president” and I mentally replay that in my head when Trump commits yet another incoherently moronic act after another
I’ve been trying to bet my Maga coworkers that she’ll win because I’m almost positive she will. The Machine is in full mobilization and will not allow another 2016.
The machine is really running hard for sure. I am curious if there are enough people out there who hate it enough that it rebounds to its disfavor or not. Hard to say.
How much do us around here believe in The Machine?
It's very Berkley New Left. I might use it sarcastically, but capitalized nouns always seem silly to me unless they're in a fantasy novel, or else downright conspiratorial.
it’s a joke. Call it the MSM consensus if you want, or something like that. Certainly about 70% of MSM journalists got on the new democratic talking point a right quick. It was extremely noticeable. The whole tune on several different items of dispute changed almost on a dime, and as has been documented here and elsewhere there was a lot of rewriting history.
If not The Machine then the Harris campaign machine is fully mobilized. I live in a swing state and I'm a registered independent, and thus a Kamala door knocker is at my front door every dang night. I need a Chase Oliver sign to put on my door...
In thoughts about our presumptive candidates I’m with Kmele, but like Matt I live in NYC so I can do … whatever. A party and a candidate who view Richard Levine as a woman in society & law will not have my vote.
I think it would've been funny if Trump had responded to Rachel Scott's warm opening question with: "Yeah, life's tough, stuff happens, I say nasty things to pretty much everyone, it's part of my appeal. But I'll cut your taxes some more, deregulate some more, juice the economy, keep everyone entertained, and it'll all be good till we go off a fiscal cliff, but we all remember what Keynes said about the long run, so who cares."
I'm not saying it's remotely possible he'd have given that response, just that it would've been hilarious watching the talking heads trying to figure out how to respond if he had.
I really appreciated that Kmele put everyone on the spot regarding how to spend their vote. I have a lot of sympathy for many of the views espoused. Yes, if you live in NY or CA your vote really doesn’t matter. Yes, Trumps Jan 6 antics might “disqualify” him. Yes, for a free market advocate the economic policies of Trump and Harris are far too similar. However I was stunned that foreign policy was not brought up on the long list of factors. For a Pennsylvanian, whose vote almost certainly does count, the global meltdown that has occurred under the Biden administration is frightening, and I can’t imagine how bad it would get under a Harris administration. She is no friend of Israel, and everything about her demeanor screams weakness. Setting aside all other issues, that alone is enough to make me pull the lever for Trump. Throw in energy policy and how it affects all prices downstream and it’s really a no-brainer. Am I the only one frightened here?
I don’t really buy into the narrative that the global meltdown was in response to Biden specifically. I *do* buy that the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan made Putin more confident, but I don’t think the withdrawal would have gone fundamentally differently under Trump, and at any rate these situations have been brewing for a while.
It’s conceivable that Trump, being a narcissist, would have taken the invasion of Ukraine as a personal challenge and committed even more strongly to Ukraine than the Biden administration, but it’s far from a guarantee. And even if that were the case, I don’t think Trump would sustain that commitment in the face of inevitable battlefield setbacks. I definitely don’t have confidence that he could have rallied a strong coalition in support of Ukraine.
Am I frightened for the next decade? Yes. I think there is a good chance that China moves on Taiwan and I doubt we’ll be able to stop them. But that fear is primarily driven by the immense disparity in China’s defense industrial base compared to ours (especially ship building), our completely fucked up procurement system, an obsession with high-end capability at the expense of mass, dwindling recruitment, and lack of political unity. There are *some* signs that the DoD is course-correcting, but I worry it’s too little too late, and it does nothing to address larger political problems.
I don’t really see military procurement being that different under Trump vs Harris, and I don’t think either can effectively unite the country if shit really hits the fan, though I think Trump is starting with a much bigger handicap in that regard.
I hate attacks on people for code switching. It's a completely normal human thing to do. The fancy-ass name just makes people think the concept is more important than it is.
Yes. But from her it's pretty disingenuous. She comes from an extremely educated background and Canada. She's not from the hood and it's cringe for her to pretend.
Code switching on its own doesn't really seem to piss people off. Code switching combined with political identitarianism is what people find distasteful imo. The performativity + coercion just inherently rubs people the wrong way.
It's not normal to put on a new accent just to endear yourself to your audience. That is what we call a performance - which is fine if you're on Broadway but that IS the opposite of normal behavior. Kamala Harris grew up in Westmount, which is a very wealthy (anglo) enclave in Montreal. Raised by an Indian biology researcher. Grandfather was a high level imperial civil servant. And now Kamala Harris is performing a version of "Black American working class" which is fake as fuck.
I like that Kmele clarified he was US born to keep the option open for future political runs.
We know why you are highlighting this Spencer
*Spencer starts humming "Movin' On Up"*

Also I want an easy button in my office where it’s just Moynihan saying YOU DUMB FUCK every time I tap it
I need this for my students
Dear Lord I would pay any amount of money for this. Although it would have to say other Moynihanisms as well. Which would be mostly just explicative-filled insults I guess.
https://customeasybutton.com/
Insults that explain things? I actually bet Moynihan could do a great job at that.
There should be enough audio out there at this point for someone to make one of those old-fashioned internet prank call soundboards.
Exactly why I started listening in 2020! I was just flummoxed with the nonsense around me and these guys confirmed there was still some sanity out there. I keep listening to make sure I keep away from the crazy!
Moynihan is brat

Kmele says Barack Obama's father was Nigerian; he was from Kenya. Shaking my head at the racism here.
I thought he was Wakandan?
He’s descended from the Woo-man King.
“Waka waka!” - Fozzie Bear, original Wakandan
Also, Shakira!

I won’t pretend I didn’t understand every reference here. Well done.
I'm not so quietly assigning you all positions in the chart

Extraordinary.
This sounds like a great issue! Please write more.
Nationalityism?
I was very amazed neither of the other two knowledgeable gentlemen corrected him
“Stop Realizing Things” should be the slogan of the next Snek flag
This entire election cycle is weird.
I was just saying to my wife that we've had:
- One major candidate is a felon
- He was also president once before
- He was also almost assassinated
- The incumbent dropped out after one term
- Potentially our first woman president
... and it's still only AUGUST.
Any one of those things ALONE would have made an historic election year.
If she picks Shapiro, and they win, I believe he’d be the first Jewish VP (though he’s not the first candidate).
Lieberman in 2000
Reread to see "candidate." I'm aware he lost lol
It’s ok, we’re all friends here. We all know the Jews rigged that election for George W.
Wait a minute……
But will he have Josh-mentum?
What a weird thing to say.
How weird of you to think so
Cringe.
Moynihan, a three-way with an Italian and an Albanian is not “international intrigue.” Get over yourself.
It's plenty intriguing to me!
Can you imagine if Donald Trump had an IQ above 70. He would be an unstoppable political force. Unfortunately his severe mental retardation stands in his way.
Easily the dumbest president we have ever had.

I'd forgotten that Mencken quotation. It's apt. Apt!

Wait until Harris is elected! Race to the bottom.

Machine is not loved.
in unison: "She was never border czar!"

I wouldn't know, except that this accords with what TFC and B&R have said.
If not The Machine then the Harris campaign machine is fully mobilized. I live in a swing state and I'm a registered independent, and thus a Kamala door knocker is at my front door every dang night. I need a Chase Oliver sign to put on my door...
No brat segment in the show notes?!?! I’m devastated
Bratastrophe!

We have a ways to go to catch up with France.
Touché.
