Saturday, Trent, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that ChayaLeah doesn't work, she doesn't get in a car, she doesn't ride in a car, she doesn't pick up the phone, she doesn't turn on the oven, and she sure as shit DOESN’T FUCKING LISTEN TO PODCASTS!
But can’t someone turn the podcast ON for her? Which reminds me, and one of the reasons I love ASK A JEW is Anaya to these questions - can orthodox use their smart phones on the day of rest? If so, why?
The idea is not to do anything that makes electricity happen. So that’s a no for smartphones. In theory, it’s okay to hear a podcast that someone else is playing, but it’s not really in the spirit of the day.
What has always bothered me about the characterization of our involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine as a proxy war, is exactly that - this is Russia’s war against Ukraine. It’s not our proxy war against Russia. I truly believe (call me naive) we have no interest in getting into a military conflict with Russia. That we’re providing aid to Ukraine is, to me, less about going against Russia and more about defending a nascent country that was on a path of progress in the face of a bully intent on crushing that promising show of sovereignty.
Good ep, but I wish they spent a little more time dwelling on the conscription question. Seems like the other side of coin of when people (and often this pod) scoff at saying maybe Ukraine needs to cede territory for peace. I'm really ignorant on these things and, so I'm interested in hearing the other side, but seems like if you can't rally enough people to willingly die to defend territory, then the people have spoken on where they stand in that tradeoff. Govt basically arresting people off trains fleeing war to send them to the front lines sounds awful and almost as bad as the Russian side, but maybe I'm naive.
I asked a question about this month's ago on the chat. Would it be worth it for Ukraine to leave a generation of young men dead as cannon fodder for a war that couldn't be won. And I asked if they would end up hating the US as so many places where we intervened do if it turned out US foreign policy had stood in the way of diplomacy as had been reported. Matt Welch decided to misrepresent what I was saying and cast aspersions on me before begrudgingly admitting that he 'was haunted by the prospect' but only because (passive aggressive) he wasn't as sure of himself as I seemed to be. I for one am still haunted by the prospect, but on this podcast he dismissively just brushed it aside and said 'War is hell' about the generation of young men who have been sacrificed at the alter of US foreign policy.
So about the presidential debate/election I am right in assuming we are all on the same page, and no one cares, because we are just waiting for some shoe to drop somewhere that's let's us know that this really isn't going to be it, aren't I? I mean something, death, Adderall overdose, Hamas attack, Russian hooker Cleveland Steamer tape, Hunter Biden's Beta tape collection emerges, Oprah throws her hat into the ring, The Rock throws his hat into the ring, anything!
What’s with the fucking low rustling sound that starts at the hour and eight-ish minute mark?? Old man Welch unwrapping Werther’s Originals? Kmele adjusting the Vision Pro? Moynihan fidgeting with pill packs? Fuck me
Discussing the most beautiful MLB parks and not even mentioning Wrigley is just so offensive. Come to the north side during the convention and you will have a new number 1
Look who's feeling the heat and suddenly found recording time in his schedule...
You're all welcome.
I thought this was a shomer shabbos podcast.. wtf.
“They already posted it”
“WELL THEY CAN FUCKING UN-POST IT!”

Who’s in charge of scheduling these podcasts? MOYNIHAN? I told that mick a fuckin thousand times…
Can you explain this for those of us who have the same knowledge of Judaism as kmele?

Strangely she does marathon 90 Day Fiancé, which actually is specifically allowed if you dig deeply into the book of Numbers.

So she must have made that comment before sundown
In addition to helping keep me sane, this podcast just brings me joy. It’s the only podcast I insist on paying money for.

"Tonight is Hamas night" is probably the hardest I've laughed in a decade.
Bluey, which is awesome, is responsible for a lot of my kids’ vocabulary. They eat “brecky” and spell everything with unnecessary “u”s.
My little boy mimics Bingo’s giggle when he’s being mischievous. But he hasn’t developed an Australian accent… yet.
I’ve heard apocryphal accounts of whole kindergarten classes with British accents when Peppa Pig was all the rage.
Cor blimey, guv!
Best children’s programming of all time.
Let’s do an NYC Fifdom debate watch rager
Everyone who liked this comment is an unbreakable RSVP yes 🤷🏻 see ya then!
"Whipped Cream and Other Delights" by Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass = best record cover ever.

My bet is on alien abduction
Don't blame me, I'm voting for Kodos.
Kodos+Kamala does sound like a winning ticket.
Either one of those two could use a good anal probing.

Here to offer the “Leprechaun Hardcore” as my Boston music scene genre descriptor for Matt Welch’s impressive Masshole lexicon #DKM
