No Scott her job is sharing ideas and her ideas are dumb. She isn’t a steelworker being cancelled over some political speech. Her job is to know what the fuck she is talking about.
the contemptuousness, the lack of professionalism. she's a vile person.
this is what john podhoretz posted on twitter yesterday:
"you know what's not being remarked upon? That rolling your eyes when someone you're interviewing because her sister is being held hostage is speaking is basically an inhuman act. Like I don't even understand how anyone who knows her can even speak to Gray again."
i'd agree with that.
she didn't get fired for her trash opinions, i'm pretty sure. i imagine it was because she couldn't be bothered to treat the woman she was interviewing like a human being.
so yeah, fuck her. she's a jerk & i'm glad she lost her job.
You can certainly hope that everyone whose ideas you think are dumb gets cancelled/loses their job but I don’t think that makes for a good society or a culture of free speech. We don’t know why she got fired so it feels a lot like people are simply celebrating the person they don’t like having their platform taken away from them. Meet bad speech with more speech rather than trying to deplatform
You didn’t read what I wrote. I said everyone whose job is sharing ideas. She isn’t a doctor or a carpenter, she is someone whose job is literally sharing her ideas/opinions.
Frankly what other grounds could there be for releasing her for poor performance than she has bad ideas?
I am not suggesting she be deplatformed, I am suggesting her bosses fire her cause she’s an idiot.
The same way people who can code well get fired from programming jobs.
I would hope she wasn’t fired for “the eye roll” or for specifically her position on Israel, but instead a summation of a variety of insane and wrongheaded shit.
I only recently subscribed a couple of months ago. I read Reason so I'm familiar with Nick, and because of a previous podcast (possibly the Reason Roundtable, or this one, not sure because the Roundtable is how I got here) had already watched the Maher clip about a couple of months ago.
But I'm not super glued in to everything and am curious.
I’m listening to Special Dispatch # 105 —Death by a Thousand Supercuts
I think this one has the drunkest version of Moynihan. And the other two seem pretty juiced as well.
It’s a real banger, almost up there with Special Dispatch #106 - Three White Claws, One Edible, and Toby in the Field. Kmele is at his most out of his face high on edibles and White Claw.
Check out the top reader comments in the NYT's profile on Kendi. No one is impressed and the ones who actually took the time to read a lengthy, mostly positive profile of the man are actually the most critical.
Typing while the guys talk about some sports shit at the end...have had to pause because even though I'm not really following, I still don't want to miss it? Anyway...
1. I microdose on mushrooms relatively frequently. Usually a half a microdose but sometimes a full one. Never more, not trying to trip out.
2. I've done bufo twice and the second time especially changed my entire relationship with my daughter. Without writing too much, I will describe bufo as the following: consider every emotional touchstone of your life - sometimes we can remember them, sometimes not, etc. - and imagine all the moments as a string of twinkle lights. With bufo, every light is on at once. It doesn't feel "high" or like "tripping" or any of that shit. You feel...alive. Like completely.
I don't like getting too into woowoo bullshit (I'm from fucking Ashland...in the 70s and 80s...we still make fun of corkboard crystal cleanses and magic candle ceremonies peddled by former commune-ists who raised their kids in treehouses - who needs literacy anyway - while having drum circles over an LSD ice cream social at the local Four Square Church), but there is merit to psycotropics. Used with intention, curiosity, and willingness to let go, the shit can make a huge difference. Doesn't always feel "good", and that shouldn't be the goal anyway (nor should self-flaggelation) but learning rarely feels good when it's happening; once you got it though, especially about yourself, it feels fucking amazing. (And now I've written another comment essay...sorry guys.)
The bits about elderly memory hit extra hard tonight.
It spoke to my mom who’s in memory care. There was actually some productive conversation. Talked to her about she and my dad not letting me go to the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day.
Could have been because I got a C on my interim report in English. (I’m sorry. “Beowulf” might be as bad as IXK….). Might have been that the pre-EU/pre-full-NATO-reentry Frogs required a visa to come in. But I wasn’t allowed to go. Kinda disappointing. Go buy a seventeen-pack of smokes from the machine atop the fence down the street.
My mom is in a similar boat - needs routine and patience. Lewy Body is quick on the draw. Sir Gawain is my prefered ancient epic - I once wrote an essay on the parallels of Gawain and Zen Buddhism. But I got an A. ;)
My mom has had Alzheimer's for a few years now. At first it wasn't that bad, she would forget some things but could have conversations for the most part. Family hired a nurse to come by and do puzzles with her. Eventually it got to be too much for my dad to deal with. She's in a nice facility because she needs round the clock care. It's a very destructive disease. Here was a once vibrant, socialiable woman, who was a pillar of the community. Now, well, as my dad says, she is happy, as the man goes to see her every single day and if that isn't love I don't know what is.
Yeah. I would like to maybe try some games when I see her next. I do live nearly a thousand miles away, unfortunately. Her dad is still alive (94!) so he visits along with other family. I’m sorta-kinda doing landlord stuff as my cousin’s kids are using her house.
The pandemic stuff really took her first year as a retiree. Sucks.
Both BJG and Glen Greenwald have complained that this is typical silencing of anti-Israel voices. Aside from the fact that there are plenty of voices hostile to Israel out there, maybe she was fired because her behavior towards the sister of a hostage was reprehensible in its visible and verbal contempt and disdain. And as on the "debate" she was absolutely owned by the woman she was trying to disparage. Why any organization would want a heartless asshole like that is beyond me.
If your job is sharing spreading ideas and your ideas are shit shouldn’t you be fired for non performance. She doesn’t work at a Wendy’s.
To be more serious, it’s canceling if you fire a physics professor over his bad economic ideas. It’s not cancelling if you fire him because he is teaching the kids the earth is flat.
What if bjg rolled her eyes at Elizabeth Smart's mother or at a sibling of one of the murder victims of the Buffalo shooting? She'd be fired immediately then too. It's not a free speech issue. It's lacking decorum and professionalism.
She's a hack and displayed it flagrently, embarrassing her publication.
The WSJ is so in the tank for DJT they are the ones who dug up and broke the story on the Stormy hush money controversy.
That “origin story” of the hush money trial just ran last week. I’m sure there was a Morning Joe that thanked the wonderful reporters who broke that story right?
I did enjoy the Focus on the Family palate cleansing podcast earlier this week, now let’s get back in the mud with the pigs. I see Alex Jones/Scarborough/Weed addiction in the rundown….thats more like it 😁
I know we’re supposed to eye roll and swirl our highball glass at the NYT but shouldn’t a Supreme Court justice display the US flag at their residence appropriately? Would feel the same way about a sworn public official kneeling etc. Did I just spontaneously get old? Thanks for making me feel like Gerald Ford you a*****s.
Not old, old-fashioned. Nothing wrong with that, and I agree with you. Inverting Old Glory is performative politics, silly catastrophizing. Still, the NYT, other outlets, and politicians are, of course, deliberately blowing the whole thing way out of proportion.
In summary, everything and everyone is stupid — except all of us here, of course.
No one watches the WNBA because the product sucks. It's lack of success is typically blamed on misogyny but women don't watch it either! Glad to see we've moved onto racism more that the misogyny shouts had no effect. Give it a year and no one will be watching Caitlyn Clark either.
Can’t wait. It’s so obnoxious how the media is trying to ram it down our throats. Every day one of the four news articles in my generic Apple feed is of Clark and/or the WNBA. I’m trying to imagine when I’d get anything like that for, say, Lebron James or Conor McDavid and it’s never happened. Closest it’s come is the chiefs post Super Bowl and that was fucking annoying too
You’re killing me Matt. Either way we won’t have to worry about that for several months. Today however: “Caitlin Clark will not be on the 2024 US Olympic team”
Every. fucking. day. man. I hate the media so much.
are we going to restrain our glee at bjg's termination?
In fifth column tradition they post a podcast right before big news comes out.
Yes! Uncanny. Biden’s D-Day appearance, too.
Just means they’re gonna be quick on the draw for the next episode. BGJ is too juicy of a topic to let drop out of the news cycle
I hear the Center for Antiracist Research is hiring. Might be a good fit.
No way. Let your Briahna Joy glee out!
We might be grateful it gets saved for an M.O.
No glee for people losing their jobs. Challenge her with words. Don't hope for her cancellation
No Scott her job is sharing ideas and her ideas are dumb. She isn’t a steelworker being cancelled over some political speech. Her job is to know what the fuck she is talking about.
Totally good she was fired.
& not just that her ideas are dumb.
the contemptuousness, the lack of professionalism. she's a vile person.
this is what john podhoretz posted on twitter yesterday:

The same way people who can code well get fired from programming jobs.
Just to clarify:
I would hope she wasn’t fired for “the eye roll” or for specifically her position on Israel, but instead a summation of a variety of insane and wrongheaded shit.
Hahaha just came in to see if people knew. Looks like I’m a day late to the party 🎉
As much as I dislike her ideas I am not one to cheer at someone losing their job.
At this point, I’m more Team Fetterman than Team Gillespie. Wouldn’t have predicted that as possible in this lifetime until about six months ago.
Why might I ask?
I only recently subscribed a couple of months ago. I read Reason so I'm familiar with Nick, and because of a previous podcast (possibly the Reason Roundtable, or this one, not sure because the Roundtable is how I got here) had already watched the Maher clip about a couple of months ago.

I suggest re-listening to both
p.s. Fuck y’all! 😘

Awe, thanks.
I should have thought of that. But the drugs won’t let me!
If people let drugs control them, the fifth column wouldn’t exist.
Here's the gillespie clip (25 seconds in): https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/noel-sheppard/2011/07/23/democrat-mayor-threatens-reasons-nick-gillespie-real-time-want
My favorite Gillespie Real Time moment was when he called out Rachel Maddow on her partisanship.
https://youtu.be/0ZcGSfwpdd8?feature=shared
Gotta be fearless to take on Mr Gillespie.
I think 60% of Americans could take nick via weight alone.
hahaha True, but they'd still come out the loser, all bloody from his verbal sharpness.
When was the last time The Jacket was on Maher? We need him back obviously.
"I haven't changed it's they who have changed"
One of my favorite Leather Jacket moments
I read that as leather face and was really confused.
Check out the top reader comments in the NYT's profile on Kendi. No one is impressed and the ones who actually took the time to read a lengthy, mostly positive profile of the man are actually the most critical.
Vibe shift is basically confirmed at this point.

Holy cow, seems Briahna Joy Gray of the great Moynihan debate infamy has been fired.
On Twitter she’s touting her podcast which is LITERALLY called “Bad Faith”
The bits about elderly memory hit extra hard tonight.
It spoke to my mom who’s in memory care. There was actually some productive conversation. Talked to her about she and my dad not letting me go to the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day.

Puzzles were really good for my mom, especially ones that weren't too complex.
Hell yes! The world was feeling extra dumb today.
How did the world get its head so far up its ass today?
Fuckin’ Earth, man! Right?
It gets dumber every day.
Following up on the Moynihan disparager-in-chief....
https://nypost.com/2024/06/06/media/briahna-joy-gray-fired-from-the-hill-days-after-rolling-her-eyes-at-sister-of-oct-7-victim-during-interview/
Non-rhetorical question: if I don't hate this news, am I a free-speech hypocrite?
Related question: if this news were to secretly please a person (asking for a friend), would that make him or her a free-speech hypocrite?
Both BJG and Glen Greenwald have complained that this is typical silencing of anti-Israel voices. She could get a job at VDare or The Unz Report.
If your job is sharing spreading ideas and your ideas are shit shouldn’t you be fired for non performance. She doesn’t work at a Wendy’s.

YES PLEASE to a six-cocktail Donna Brazile appearance.
