Ana surprised me. She's had plenty of crazy in her time, but seems like she could be the next one on the "let's just admit a lot of these people are nuts, and we'll be better off for admitting it" train.
That train is getting pretty crowded too. The left has always been a fractured coalition, but it will be interesting to see where this radical vs. liberal split goes in the coming years.
My mom and your dad have similar health issues. I love the moments of clarity for your dad - even better when the clarity *is* utter confusion about what they're seeing or hearing - we are all wondering the same, Mr. Welch.
I personally think we should take my mom and your dad out bowling and let them talk. My mom could go on and on factually about renal failure, nephrology, and the state of pharmaceuticals, then switch in a moment to confrontational disgust because she can't figure out the rules on bowling (that would be our fault, obviously)...and also she's sure people are filming her in the bathroom or some such. Your dad may fare the same.
I'd put good money on the two of them convinced they knew one another in their youth at some point in the evening.
Stories like Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin scare me. Reminds me of situations like Emmanuel Cafferty. That you can just be a guy going about your business, and if someone decides on the flimsiest of reasons, that you have violated their sacred code, your entire life will be put into the blender, and there is nothing you can do to escape. You can't apologize or ignore it or run away or just say stop. There is now no second of your life that will just belong to you, it will belong to the mob. As an introvert who doesn't handle stress well I can really relate to Jim Larkin just saying it isn't worth it, and taking the drastic way out. Funny that so many of the same people who react in horror to the stories like the Salem which trial don't realize they are still reenacting it to this day.
That list of Jesse Singal supporters has the names of all three of you. It strictly credits you three for TFC, however all three entries are about as far apart in the listing as can be. It's strange, in large part because the list is not alphabetical, so it's as if you were all added at separate times, or by different people, or both. They didn't offer links to their claims that you're supporters of Jesses', however I won't necessarily dispute it. I'm just curious if they have three different episodes for each of you, or just one.
Nick Gillespie made the cut, and so does Scott Greenfield! Josh Szeps, and Andrew Sullivan have, also, managed to get themselves targeted as "...range politically from center-right to fascist...", to little surprise, as everyone on the list is being "smeared" for. I mean I think most of us are familiar with their transition (no pun intended) on the topic, but I've not seen too much slide to the right from either of the two overall, or even much on this issue alone! There are a few other people on the list, some may deserve some scorn, but most quite clearly do not. I appreciate that they're not too cowardly to post links, making the list actually informative to curious people.
Then there is a short list of 4 people considered supporters of his within the trans community. They even list one of the people who wrote a rebuttal to Jesses' piece, a point which they note themselves. Nothing new, but I just like to note how much they just can't help themselves from adding in a few hypocrisies.
Matt, I'm unreasonably angry with you mislabeling this post as a Firehose instead of Working for the Weekend! I need consistent labeling so when I want to reference your great writing I can find it easily.
"Having said that, I have two points. 1) I am mentally ill. Society should not be structured around my own masochistic tolerance for getting beaten up when I’m drunk."
Best wishes for your dad’s health, Matt.
Jesse Singal was great on Jonah's podcast. Definitely would recommend people listen to that.
Also, Ana Kasparian was on BAR and that was great too.

I thought the Pesca-Mounk conversation was the best, most thoughtful, nuanced, sympathetic discussion of the media issues that I have heard.
Per Liz Wolfe, Jesse’s promiscuous streak will continue as the guest of this week’s Just Asking Questions.

Love this. Thank you and I yes of course all best wishes to your dad!

'Your name will also go on the list [....'
And mine probably ... and a few other people's.
Jesse also did an article for Dispatch. https://thedispatch.com/article/the-cass-review-wont-go-away/
Washington! One of the best videos on YouTube. Absolutely love that you posted it. The other Nealy videos (check out the one on JFK) are also 🤌
Mother of God that was rad.

The person who maintains this list is a raging lunatic.

I reserve the right to re-brand midstream.

That's gold, Jerry!
For a second I thought Matt met legendary screenwriter and director Paul Schrader.
When will the stupid stuff end?
Peak Stupid will never be attained.
Alas I fear you are correct.
