Get-Me-Through-the-Weekend Links: New Epi, Bari’s Heroism, Zeppo Does Rogan, and You Won’t Believe This Video From Florida….
Happy holiday weekend, pallies! I hope you’ve already downloaded the new epi (#342) while it’s still in its “DRAFT” form on the website…. Meanwhile!
* I recommend, before consuming this video I am about to share with you, that you gather some of your closest #Fifdom loved ones, either in the same room or same Zoom; time your ingestion of whatever mood-enhancers just right, and then, after watching the hour-long program, which was filmed two days after our triumphant double-header show in Miami, IMMEDIATELY type up your stream-of-consciousness reaction in the comments below. There really is no other way.
Without further ado, here is The Matt Asher Show on PBS, along with “the most entertaining trio in the modern era of podcasting.”
* Our dear pal Josh Zepps (#25, #80, #103, #117, #196, #328), serially stymied in his efforts to hang w/ the most entertaining podcast in the biz over Christmas, settled instead for Joe Rogan the other day, and kaPOW did people’s brains asplode. (Not the gentlemen in question, mind you, but seemingly everyone who has a stake in adoring or despising either one of them, and/or in having VERY STRONG THOUGHTS about various Myocarditis/vaccine studies.) You can see the headlinesfor yourselves; it’s actually kind of fascinating exercise in all that is weird and off about Old Media dealing with the stars of the New, but maybe I’ll save that for a column next week.
* In a Jerusalem Post piece this week by Brian Blum headlined “Bari Weiss is my hero,” Blum swooned over the Weiss/Kmele episode about the Karen in the Ramble: “The incident seemed the perfect embodiment of white privilege with Amy Cooper playing the ideal ‘Karen’ (derogatory slang for an entitled white woman) – that is, until Weiss and Kmele Foster, cohost of the podcast, ‘The Fifth Column,’ dug deeper and discovered that the story was not quite how it appeared.”
I’ve got a cupla ideas for regular stuff to start including in these Friday news-dumps, but this week was, let’s call it, physically shambolic. Happy MLK day, everyone!
