Get-Me-Through-the-Weekend Links: Better Zaid Than Red, Bad School Board Journo-lism, Exciting New Barn Revenue, etc.
Happy Halloween, friendies! Hope you enjoyed this week’s Zaid Jilani joint, his second Fif’ appearance (following #181). Zaid’s excellent Substack (w/ Shant Mesrobian) is called Inquire More; his FoxNews.com documentary is titled “Globalization hits home: Mylan pharmaceuticals and the Mountain State,” and his Twitter feed is a must-follow for anyone keyed up about the Virginia gubernatorial election this Tuesday.
* SPEAKING of which, here’s me writing at considerable length about some of the media coverage we discussed near the top of that episode. (As ever, writing/Roundtabling product here, read-out work here.)
* Oh wait, there’s more on-camera jackassery as well. First, me & Nancy Rommelmann & Reason’s Liz Wolfe went on Compound Media’s Mornin’!!! with Bill Schulz and Joanne Noscuhinsky Thursday to wear funny hats and talk mostly about woolly mammoth sex, though this clip (lovingly harvested by Busty Wimsatt!) has more to do with NYC outdoor-dining NIMBYs. (Deep-cut enthusiasts will note that both Bill and Nancy were on #79.) Then a few days earlier, Nancy & I did a livestream from her mom’s barn upstate to talk about Paloma’s EXCITING NEW YOUTUBE REVENUE OPPORTUNITIES, which we couldn’t have done w/out all y’all. We will not spend that $18.94 in one place!
* I know what yer thinking, Has the Fif' ever done a Halloween episode? In fact yes, in 2019, #158, with Thomas Chatterton Williams, on “Unlearning Race.” And also in 2018, #119, with Noah Rothman, on “Political Violence and the Great Disillusionment.” Appropriately enough, in both cases!
OK, enjoy all your meth-candy, kiddies! Please share all your cute baby and sexy-CRT photos in the comments.
Moynihan update! Second attempt: My amazing wee daughter passed this along and, like a good dad, I’m passing it along to the Fifdom. A message and donation plea (a modest goal of $250 for pediatric cancer research) from lil’ Liv;
My teammates and I will walk as far as we can on our hands to honor children cancer survivors, those in treatment, and those we lost too soon.
Handstand Walk with Eloise was launched by Infiniti Elite gymnastics in support of a former Infiniti Elite and Brown University Gymnast, Caryn Freiberger. Caryn’s mission to help more children impacted by cancer was motivated by her own experience as the parent of a small child who received world class care at Memorial Sloan Kettering. College and club gymnastics teams across the country have been participating in solidarity.
I'm trying to raise as much money as I can for this important cause and hope you will support me. You can make your 100% tax deductible gift here:
