Such a delight to get two great episodes and a post like this one in a single week. Well worth the subscription. Maybe I should put my money where my mouth is and up my contribution to the Never Fly Coach level.
A friend of a friend hosts a popular far-left podcast. As a nod of respect and because it is good for me to expand my horizons, I picked an episode I thought would be provocative (topic = inflation: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-dig/id1043245989?i=1000530286586). It was tough to listen to for a couple reasons. First, the motives consistently ascribed to people who seek to combat inflation are horrible (it is their *aim*, apparently, to "crush workers"), which is a joke. Second, more importantly, it was utterly serious and devoid of any sense of humor directed anywhere. It would probably be good for me to listen to more, but I just can't take it. I rather laugh and learn with TFC.
One good takeaway for me though: I'm going to be more careful not to ascribe absurd motives to people with whom I disagree. I bet I do so without thinking, at least sometimes.

Same. I’ve been consciously working on this for a couple years now. I’m getting better, but it’s a process. I think about 70% of internet fights boil down to “I’m going to invent an opinion that doesn’t really exist and ascribe it to this person who’s said something that could be tenuously connected to this imaginary opinion.”
Unbelievably sad to read and hear about the passing of fellow listener Chris. The world lost an incredible human. Sending so much good energy to his family as they navigate this.
Of course we listened to Marquee Moon last night (accompanied by a lovely cocktail called Midnight Blossom that features anejo tequila and Averna). Before that listen I had never really identified Television's influence on one of my favorite bands, Franz Ferdinand, so we went down that rabbit hole too. RIP TV
Unemployment must be hitting Moynihan hard. Usually in these screenshots he’s sitting in the shadows of a shelf of books that would make Gatsby blush. In that picture, the decor is of a college student who misplaced their 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Is episode #83, the one where Dreyfuss got so shit faced that he tried to tell a joke like 5-6 times and they kept having to censor it? Wanted to listen to that one again because I just remember laughing so hard my face hurt, but wasn’t sure which episode it was.
A few weeks ago, Matt mentioned an article by Emannuelle Richard about the Hungarian porn industry. My Google skills are borderline disturbing, so I was able to find it: http://www.yak.net/hungary-report/hr.00025 (scroll way down). It was a fantastic and entertaining read! Any other works in the Richard oeuvre I should seek out?
Oh, she's really good. Emmanuelle Richard is the byline. Lotta stuff in Liberation, Hebdo (Swiss), Online Journalism Review, The European, some in The Guardian....
Thanks to Kmele for a great discussion with David French. I took note of when David tried justified banning Trump from social media after Jan. 6 for inciting violence you had a great comeback with the many instances of BLM/mainstream media/celebrities/politicians standing down the the VERY destructive/"mostly peaceful" protests of 2020 and still being allowed on the various platforms. Interestingly he added commercial and did not re-visit your comment. I love the Dispatch but they are a little too fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome to see the big picture, which is why I have my paid subscription to Fifth Column and have taken a pause from them. So many great independent platforms- I love when you all cross paths!
I'm going to read that article. As one of your NYC public school teachers on this sub, I am often curious how "the other half lives" which by that I mean, the affluent in Park Slope schools. I get a bit weird since in my school, there is none of this stuff that is apparent.
Amazon Review of Levi’s 501 STF. Posting it here because when I read it, my brain shifted into a Moynihan accent.

Very Good! Excellent!

Levi's is just excellent. Very Good! Still Wrangler 47mwz or even 13mwz have better denim. I would recommend Wrangler to open shop in Serbia or other Balkan countries. Here in Serbia Wrangler can easily win competition against Levi's.
I actually subscribed to come respectfully ask you not to make this guy a regular on your show. Dreyfus took this from my favourite podcast to a playground of bullies in one episode. I couldn’t even finish. I hope he eventually deals with his daddy issues, but not on here.
All nepobabies should aspire to be like Ben
I aspire for my children to be nepobabies.

Ben looks like he's about to tell someone to rub the lotion on their skin or else they'll get the hose again.
Buffalo Bill wasn't into big chicks either...
Mostly, though, I feel like my entire worldview is wrong, re: dating, if Ben has the luxury to be picky.
Never discount Funny.
If I think about it, it's 95% the hair.

The big question for me is whether Kmele can swing a Killer Mike guest spot. It'd be interestingly contentious, I imagine
Oh hell yes - record it live at the Garden!

Why has she not been a guest???
I'd like a European Wives Club episode.
I’m so onboard with this idea!
I bet Moynihan has at least a dozen of them :D
Common law. But I'm really interested in the OG, the artist behind Reason magazine!
Just realized I forgot Tracy. Shit!
The Wives Club.
Thank you for correcting my spelling without correcting my spelling. My apologies..

I clicked into the link for the fitness group. Aaron, whoever you are, who hurt you? Am I reading that you did 288km last week? That is too many.
I’m assuming that’s by bike? Still pretty darn good
Sure, this is the picture of a man who *definitely* isn't into albino dwarves...
