I sure hope you guys discuss NHJ’s latest dustup with Coleman Hughes.

Her comment about Sowell was astonishingly embarrassing.

Expand full comment

Ooh I was just reading that. Hannah Nicole at her worst.

Expand full comment

At her worst? This is SOP for her.

Expand full comment

Oh, man, she deleted some of it already. She was bagging on Thomas Sowell? Sheesh.

Expand full comment

She didn’t seem to be aware of a single piece of his writing.

Googling!

Should have specified on Twitter (of course).

Seriously, I didn't realize Sowell was *that* prolific. WOW!

At the DeSantis roundtable MM was articulate without being dogmatic. A tough needle to thread.

However, it was the grown-up table for men with big-boy shoes. Do we have to pass the plate or start a go-fund-me so Michael can get a pair of adult shoes? One’s eyes are drawn to the black dress socks, dirty Stan Smiths & the woman with an $85k Van Cleef necklace. Won’t say anything else about the prep school attire.

Matt & Kmele for the love of MM, make him get a pair of big-boy shoes to wear at these events.

Look I feel that way when I see someone at church or a funeral or at the Philharmonic wearing their Nikes or whatever, but on a TV panel with a bunch of DeSantis goons/anti-media plaintiffs lawyers/gun activists/Nick Sandmann? Forget about it. I would feel embarrassed if I DID have shiny brown Oxfords to match that other guy on the left, frankly.

In a group like that, standing out is a good thing.

The DeSantis roundtable mentioned in this post is well worth watching. This piece in Persuasion about DeSantis’ illiberal policies is interesting

That [Busty] Wimsatt clip is wild to me because here’s Moynihan being eminently sensible and subtle and making great points and demonstrating very clearly that he’s not a shitty partisan hack—and a couple of times it cuts to a clearly delighted Ron DeSantis sitting in front of a great big Orwellian banner: “TRUTH”.

It’s like having a good rare steak from Keen’s—with really acidic pulp-free orange juice to drink. That, and a bunch of unappetizing sides that no one is very interested in—not that Keen’s has such sides, but you get the idea (I hope?).

Matt is correct, on the lower bound of age appropriate shtupping being half one’s age + 7.

However, in the post #metoo era there has been an addendum to the rule. A 100% barrier to entry - if the girls mother has to sign the NDA to make it legally binding.

This isn’t related to TFC, but I wanted to give Matt props. In “The Reason Roundtable”’s “What did Reason Get Wrong in 2019 Matt predicted that in the next year: “There will be a conventional war between two countries that have populations larger than 40 million.

A very bold prediction that was only about 14 months premature. Kudos.

Well, it doesn't take Nostradamus to predict that Putin (and Russia) will invade former Soviet neighbors, alas.

Favorite part of that Moynihan clip (aside from the intelligent commentary) is watching the cameras try to keep a bead on him as he zigs and zags in his seat. Next to all those stiff people there he looks like an inflatable tube man outside a car dealership.

I’ll spin MM’s attire this way: The sneakers were a power play to suggest journalistic impartiality. The journalist doesn’t need to impress anyone or posture like he’s like the others at the table. Especially when there’s a politician at the center of it. 🤷‍♀️😊

Wait a minute, wait a minute. I'm a paid subscriber and only got spinach artichoke dip, which is clearly just an appetizer, so WTF is all this entrée talk?

Now I’m not saying that yeah, we did it but... could someone please tell me why my entirely correct opinion that sticking a finger in putins pudding by way of gas pipelines going boom was not only (theoretically) justified by certain conspicuous actions preceding but, more importantly this (if true) was a moral and strategic imperative? The braying of much of the too online left and libertarian anti interventionist right, decrying this action as (on an as yet unverified report mind you) an act of international terrorism, and/or, a flagrant act of piracy, yawn, an unprecedented crime against the sea, etc... I’m so confused... it’s not imperialism when the Russian Honcho does it? Did Russia just unexpectedly overshoot the border during a training exercise and oops accidentally try to occupy Kyiv in a hilarious cargo cult like effigy of the 3rd infantry’s Baghdad thunder run? And now they’re being picked on by scary joey b? JFC
