You should have Matti Friedman on about Israel, or Lahav Harkov. Noa Tishbi who was on Maher last night was pretty great too. Or me if you want to not learn anything but have fun.
There is an excellent podcast "For Heaven's Sake" by Yossi Klein Halevi and Donniel Hartman which I highly recommend for a good take on Israeli politics. Matti Friedman is also excellent.
The situation is very complex. Absolutist views are wrong, I personally think Herzog's compromise offer is very reasonable, but the rejectionist and triumphalist approach of the current government is wrong headed, totally unhelpful and will cause a lot of problems.
I think, as someone living here who voted for one of the parties in gov't, the label "rejectionist and triumphalist" is an unfair characterization of the situation 🤷🏼♂️
Maybe I overstated the government's reaction to Herzog's proposal, and I think that some of the coalitions' proposals make sense (the court has too much power and the legislature has minimal impact on the nominating and approval process for judges. However the refusal to compromise at all when what appears to be a legitimate offer to negotiate when it appears that a significant majority of the population (including many who voted for the coalition) want some for of compromise is why I used that description of the coalitions' approach. Perhaps I overstated it. You are there, I am not.
I'm open to arguments against expertise, but to me, if the idea is to get an informed speaker on the subject of judicial reform, I don't think it makes sense to have an actress turned activist opine at length on the subject (a la Noa Tishbi)--to equate it to a recent subject on the pod, TFC got an economist on to talk about bank runs.
I like Gadi Taub, but if you’re looking to get someone who could give a non-activist overview, it’s not him. It would be good to have a journalist who’s neither “we’re all going to die!” or “fuck the elites”.
Who did you vote for and why? If you’re comfortable sharing ofc :) I promise I’m not your average שמאלנית אליטיסטית
Happy Saint Patrick’s weekend! I’m the product of WASP-Irish marriage twice over (my parents and my paternal grandparents), but happily for me I got the cool name.
Matt, since you flog the comment section as a way to attempt to convert free loaders to coach passengers, may I suggest they tried and true method of making up an award, bestowing that honor upon the TFC comment section, and then toting said fake award every week. It’s a proven winning strategy. Just look at the BBQ sauce aisle in any grocery store. Something like the TFC Award For Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence:
I saw this. In fairness, this is the ONLY place I’ve seen her photo or race mentioned. And let’s be honest, she ain’t white-white. Like, dirty Mick white.
I actually wouldn't conclude anything based on this article. There've been times where people have been misidentified due to sloppy reporting. And yeah, you can't conclude "race" based on just a photo. If that is her, she looks "white", but I'd only conclude those things with "low confidence".
You know I am getting kind of tired of this. It seems like every time I watch a debate on race, there is this NBINPOC(non-Black, Indigenous, non-Person of Color) with a girls name trying to educate me about race. Wasn't that made illegal? Can we at least get someone who isn't so GD handsome? He is making me doubt my cis-gendered, heteronormativity!
P.S. OMG heteronormativity is actually in the spellcheck.
In the Megyn Kelly segment on that Stanford rape thing, I couldn’t help but remember rape whistles. In college, every girl got a whistle that she was supposed to blow, if something bad was happening. People called them rape whistles as a joke. That Megyn Kelly segment jogged that memory for some reason.

My vote: Bring Gadi Taub on :)
Also not sure Michael would be able to think clearly if they were to host Mrs. Tishbi 😅

I'm in academia (definitely not tenured) so I don't feel comfortable sharing too much online. It'll have to wait for an in-person TFC get-together 😅
But I promise as well that I'm not your average "מתנחל טרוריסט" :)
Serious question: do y’all think Jesse should give Katie the keys?
I think he should have Ben Dreyfuss take control over his account.
That is an escape hatch scenario.
💯
Maybe Megyn Kelly only showcasing “white” books went too far.
Ah, Megyn needs to sit down with Matt’s wife & learn how to pronounce French stuff.
Emmanuelle should also teach the guys how to pronounce "Camus" :D
Sacheen Littlefeather was a fraud? What’s next, Jonny Two Feathers was faking it, too?

I would have believed Jonny One Feather, but Two? That's just getting greedy.

If you guys ever open a TFC merch store, I would definitely buy a “Justice for Juicy” t-shirt. #JuicyInnocent #NotSuicidal
Maybe some O.J. Simpson crossover too?
"If I Juiced It"
"If the Nigerian's weren't paid, the ruling must be stayed"
"The Juicey's Loosey"
"Absolutely, 100% not guilty"
"I did not, could not, and would not have faked this crime"
"OJ might not be black, but Juicey definitely is"
"A fist through the fears of black Americans for more than 400 years.... and also my ex-girlfriend and her lover"
Read all the comments, forgot there was a dispatch to read 🥸
Wait til Megyn finds out that Jennifer Gries is indeed NOT black.
White privilege denied. https://atlantablackstar.com/2023/03/17/cant-i-just-make-his-life-a-living-hell-myself-stanford-employee-charged-with-making-false-rape-report-claims-as-months-long-revenge-plot-against-black-co-worker-backfires/
I can't freaking wait until we can get back to considering the actual issues without obsessing over phenotypes.

Perhaps the gorgeous Israeli activist who opened Bill Maher last night would be willing to assist Moynihan on his quest.....
MM & MW were hilarious on MK yesterday!
Thank you!!! Always here for a Smiths reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C906lbkcYug
Edit: Loathe as I am to compliment Matt on his sartorial choices, but....I like his tie in the Megyn Kelly interview.
Don't encourage him!

In case anyone is looking for THAT part of the Megyn Kelly Show: it starts at 37:00.
