Loved your appearance on Ask a Jew! And I second Chris Stirewalt’s interview with Andrew Sullivan. Listened to both twice!

I’d like to nominate a Workin For the Weekend video. The Fifthdom should see this episode of A Special Place in Hell where Twitter-famous Saira Rao and Regina Jackson talk about these white-guilt CRT dinners they host. Former Fifth Column guest Sarah Haider (#118) and Saira get into it almost immediately. It’s a beautiful train wreck. https://youtu.be/vxeGmvpTsus (Hope the fellas get Sarah and Meghan on again sometime. Big fan now).

Yeah, I meant to post that a while ago!

Just listened. What a wonderful ideology: they tell you how and why you are feeling and thinking despite what you say and if you deny it, you are racist. What a convenient business plan. This is what we sell and if you don’t think you need it then you really need it.

Also - the rant that Saira lets loose at 48min has *chef’s kiss* such “I have lots of black friends” energy when she talks about her bonfides as a “white woman for 42 years.” It’s magically insane.

"Our resident white women" shows up a lot on reference to a person they hired....like, if you can't see why you are so backwards from that alone, I don't think there is any helping you. Makes me laugh it's so sad.

I'd give it a listen, but honestly unless the clip is 18 seconds long I know I won't get even halfway through.

You know what the moms want this weekend, lads. Give it to us!

Thanks for shout out Matt!

The Stirewalt episode on the Dishcast is a must listen. Topics included how many goats have to be in pornography to get Chris excited and golden showers on Ted Cruz. I seriously almost peed my pants.

There's a no pun intended lurking somewhere in your post.

Or maybe it was intended? We’ll never know...

Sorry to be on the "Philadelphia transit sucks" again, apropos of nothing, but... a 14 year old kid was murdered on the platform of my former SEPTA stop Saturday at 2pm. This is the third shooting there in six weeks.

New Yorkers should absolutely be worried about degrading MTA quality because winding up like SEPTA is entirely possible of nothing is done. Recovering SEPTA will be an absolutely monumental effort due to declining ridership and fare collection.

I feel like if you name something “SEPTA” you’re kind of just asking for it.

Woah. Sun-kissed, ear-studded Matt! Not sure what he's protesting there, but whatever it is, I'm convinced.

In a photo taken by a VERY young Spike Jonze, no less.

Was not a protest, but ... a photo shoot? He had me in various industrial/rusty/warehousy downtown L.A. locales, holding up a copy of our Prague newspaper, as if selling it to (non-existent) passersby.

That clip from The Independents is great. So about "Kmele's friend", the "douchebag" who said the n-word to be "provocative"...she's talking about Moynihan, right?

I always tend to say that people who think they are opposites are really counterparts. The Left-wing they-ification of Tucker really does remind me of the Right-wing "othering" of Obama. So much of the criticism of him, birth certificate/Kenyan Muslim seemed rooted in the idea that he was fundamentally not one of us, but one of them.

Agree strongly with Jesse. Just generally, "they" to denote a broad collection of people usually belongs in the communication trash bin with "a lot" (to describe a quantity) or "that" (as a noun). When it's used by someone with a political agenda, I usually will equate it to mean "a very small number of people".

Expand full comment

Honestly it hasn't sunk into my brain yet. Every time I am reading a story about someone, and the "they" pronoun comes up I still go back and see if I missed them talking about more than one person. It kind of demonstrates the whole illogic of the idea. If you are non binary does that mean you are neither gender or both genders, or both, or neither? That sounds like one of those riddles Kirk used to use to make computers blow up on the original Star Trek.

Specifically a small number of people. Perhaps a minority of the population with considerable perceived power.

And in most cases it’s fine to hold that view. Unless you end that sentence with “... and it’s the Jews.”

Just going to show that every conspiracy theory is just the nazi conspiracy theory but more secular.

I’m a tad disappointed. Kmele didn’t use the word nearly as much as I thought he would based on how you guys were talking about it! I do have to admit that even once is an awful lot in broadcast journalism, but still...

That was me regarding the outcome song! Thanks for using it! Sorry I didn't say more. I didn't want to clutter you email. Love you guys.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-05-15/svb-s-former-ceo-says-fed-social-media-contributed-to-collapse

Not sure where else to put this out of blind rage. This idiot wrote a piece for Bloomberg quoting the former CEO of SVB blaming the Fed for its collapse. What's the problem with that? The article does not mention EVEN FUCKING ONCE that this guy is a *Member* of the Fed Reserve Board of SF.

Does one (even Class A) board member have the control of Fed policy? Of course not. And CEOs blaming everyone else but themselves is expected, but neglecting to at least *mention* that this guy should've at least had a clue about what the Fed was doing it is so crazy I can't believe it's not intentional.

Loved the clip from the Independents (all of you looked so young!). It was a good discussion and I was hoping that it was the Origin Story of Kmele’s term that he really should trademark: melanin force field.

Matt, I’ve noticed that you have transitioned from butchering metaphors to names.

Are you growing as a broadcaster by providing us with fresh content or trolling us by making us think it’s not intentional?

I’m just glad you don’t have Moynihan’s tick of repeating the last few words of the person he talks over... 😂

Love you guys!
