On Thursday, America’s favorite race-less shoe model went on the relatively new podcast of former five-time congressman (and the only sitting Libertarian in that party’s history) Justin Amash. Per the host, they talked “fatherhood, his views on race, the shakeup in the Libertarian Party, why politicians with bad libertarian records are sometimes lauded as defenders of individual rights, and more.” Also, Moynihan’s intimidating bookshelves, extra middle names, criminal justice reform, congressional dysfunction, Frédéric Bastiat, Bill Weld, National Divorces, Jared Polis, Tulsi Gabbard, Ron DeSantis, and much more. Note: Sometime after the 73-minute mark, Amash asks Kmele whether he’s thought about running for political office….
We’ve had Amash on The Fifth Column precisely once, on #184, during that three-week window in the spring of 2020 when he was an announced candidate for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination. (Reason write-up/transcript here.) His Hamlet act on running for president was something…let’s just say I lived closely with on a professional basis for several years, from trial balloon, to defection from the GOP, to joining the L.P., to declaring his bid, to withdrawing literally on the night he was supposed to be at a debate I was moderating. …
Amash remains a key figure in the Libertarian Party’s internal tussles and prospective 2024 approach; start here for Reason’s (very good!) recent coverage of that.
* Previously unmentioned in this space, Kmele last month went on The Ayaan Hirsi Ali Podcast to talk about “family, discrimination, and individualism,” and “what happened to the American man.” He also appeared on the American Enterprise Institute’s The Invisible Men podcast with hosts Ian Rowe and Nique Fajors to talk racecraft and suchlike.
* Who needs to see a Moynihan-hosted, 25-minute Vice News mini-documentary about renting in America? That would be you!
* Our great friends over at the Political Beats podcast have totally re-jiggered for paying subscribers their lil’ baby #4 episode, featuring yours truly, about R.E.M.:
* Hmmm, today is the second Sunday of the month….Maybe you Never Fly Coachers should keep open your 9 p.m. ET time slot?
Ugh. The most pro-YIMBY guy that Vice would let Moynihan interview’s big idea was targeted rent control and federal subsidies on the demand side.
I would vote for Kmele in a SECOND, and for anything really. Think on’t, Foster. The world needs more of you.
